Babar is a Canadian/French animated television series produced in Toronto, Canada by Nelvana Limited and The Clifford Ross Company. It premiered in 1989 on CBC and HBO, subsequently was rerun on HBO Family, NBC, Ion Television, Telemundo and Qubo. The series is based on Jean de Brunhoff's original Babar books and was Nelvana's first international co-production. The series' 78 episodes have been broadcast in 30 languages in over 150 countries.
In September 2006, the show returned to US airwaves where it was one of the first-ever shows to air on Qubo, (one of the series it launched with when it was a block on NBC, along with Jacob Two-Two, Dragon, 3-2-1 Penguins!, Larryboy: The Cartoon Adventures, VeggieTales and Jane and the Dragon).
Premise
Inspired by the famous books by Jean and Laurent de Brunhoff, this is the animated story of Babar, a young elephant who undergoes many challenges and adventures. Babar always finds the strength to rise above difficulty and search out every cloud's silver lining. In this series, Babar is crowned King of the elephants, plans and builds Celesteville, and becomes a father. Babar learns the greatest lesson of all: despite life's challenges, great things are possible if one never gets discouraged. Long live happiness!

- Babar and Jane and the Dragon were the only Qubo shows from the launch of the brand to still air on Qubo from the very beginning to the very end.
- In the early 2010s, there was a spin-off that aired on Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and ironically enough, Qubo; Babar and the Adventures of Badou. It focused on the adventures of Babar's eight-year-old grandson Badou, who along with his friends and family, solves numerous mysteries, puzzles, and situations in Celesteville.
